Our History
The Schafer Legacy — 125 Years Rooted in Central Alberta
For over a century, the Schafer family has been part of the living history of Central Alberta — a story marked by hard work, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the land. The family’s journey began in the early 1900s, when their ancestors immigrated from Germany and settled in the heart of Alberta. From the moment they arrived, the Schafer dedicated their lives to the land — raising cattle, growing wheat, and building a foundation that would sustain generations to come.
Alongside their farming, the family’s first homestead included a blacksmith shop. There, the early Schafer honed their craft — forging tools, creating windmills, and fabricating water lines and pipes that supported their own farm and the surrounding community. That spirit of innovation and service became part of the Schaefer identity, passed down through the generations.
Over time, the Schafer became known not only as cattle and wheat farmers but also as skilled craftsmen — people who took pride in every detail, whether it was caring for the herd or working with iron and steel.
Today, Glen Schafer, a proud fourth-generation farmer, continues to carry forward this rich heritage. He remains deeply committed to the family’s cattle farming roots while also expanding the tradition of craftsmanship through modern fabrication and welding.
